Kaipara Library Mask Making

Providing homemade masks to their community!

Like many public libraries around the country, Kaipara District Library, are doing their bit to unite against COVID-19. They are providing homemade masks to their community or in this case, library-made!

“We’re starting small with some donated fabric, says Library Manager, Lisa Salter, “And our fabulous volunteers do the sewing either in the library or at home.”

Lisa says making them in the library will raise awareness for mask-wearing which she hopes will gain traction in the community.

“We would like to be able to offer free or koha masks to people who might not have one. We also don’t want people to go without or resort to reusing a disposable mask that might be grubby.”

As Lisa points out, “The problem with disposable masks is you can only wear them once. We are anticipating that at some stage we all might need to wear one so why not own a couple of nice ones you can toss in the wash.”
